New tariffs for select countries

2025-04-12

President Trump unveiled sweeping tariffs Wednesday afternoon, announcing a minimum 10% tariff on all trading partners and so-called reciprocal measures against dozens of countries, including some of the largest U.S. trading partners.

In announcing the new tariffs, Trump said they were his largest yet and that global tariffs would help correct decades of unfair relations and stop other countries from exploiting the U.S.

For example, China’s tariff rate will rise to 34%, including a blanket import tax on the country’s goods imposed earlier this year. Vietnam’s import tax will be close to 50%.

“If you want a zero tariff rate, you have to make your products in the United States,” Trump said outside the White House on Wednesday.

China has been subject to a 54% tariff since Trump took office in 2025, and Sino-U.S. trade is in jeopardy. The living standards of the American people will plummet, inflation will rise rapidly, and the global trade environment will be very, very bad

Let’s do more business with Europe and South America, etc. This is the only way out.
